Shanghai (Dec 11-14)

Sorry guys that's its taken me so long to post up pics from my Shanghai trip. But here it is!
So impressed by our Wing On tour to Malaysia & Singapore, we got our tour guide to call back to book our tour to Shanghai even before we got back to Hong Kong...LoL. Although it was rainy, foggy and cold for the entire time we were there, there were lots of cool things to see and experience. Although sometimes it did seem like we spent more time being pedalled around to shopping dealers than seeing the sites. In the end though, I found this tour more fun than the last b/c I got to meet some kids my age...it was good times!
Freshly made "Siu Lung Bao"...16 for 8RMB! (~ $1.50 Cdn)
We spent most of our time in Shanghai, with a day trip out to Suzhou. We got to see the "old" and the "new" Shanghai, literally split by a river channel running through the middle of the city. It was interesting to see how fast this city's been developing though, with new buildings are being raised like crazy in Shanghai right now. Interestingly enough, even with development we see a balance of the old and the new, the mixing of modern architectural concepts with traditional Feng Shui principles.

This huge statue hovering over a busy intersection serves no other purpose than to counteract the negative energy coming from a new nearby skyscraper building (Feng Shui principle)

The Old: Water City
Not too far away from Shanghai, we got a taste of the "old". The Water City is kind of like a mini-Venice. Though not as developed, not as commercial, but a really unique place with lots of interesting things to see!

The "New" again
Shanghai boasts the world's fatest monorail

431 KM/HR!!!

I even met some friends my age (Alex, me, Gareth, Wing)
